Join Our Jail Support Team

We are organizing jail support for inauguration weekend. Anyone can volunteer, not just attorneys. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!

We are seeking dedicated volunteers for the day of inauguration and the day of the Women's March who are willing to be stationed at various police departments to greet potential arrested protesters in partnership with the DC National Lawyer's Guild and Law for Black Lives-DC.

Volunteers will be responsible for greeting and supporting arrestees upon their release, with information about their rights, police complaint forms, opportunities for support and connection to lawyers, and general good will. We hope that we will be able to get some hot chocolate, shoe laces, and other resources for arrestees too, pending available budget. We encourage lawyers and law students to sign up, but a legal background is not required.

Please note that transportation will likely be very difficult on inauguration day and on the day of the Women's March. As such, please note that it may not be possible to both volunteer and be present at the Mall, so please keep this in mind when considering volunteering. Also please note that this volunteer opportunity is prophylactic and may involve literally standing around, as it is very possible (and hopeful!) that no one will be arrested.

Once we have a team of volunteers aligned, we will organize how to get printed materials to you all and other possible resources and organize the way this will go.

I have broken the shifts down into 2 hours each, but please feel free to sign up for however long you are willing to volunteer. Please sign up here.
