Law 4 Black Lives: DC Convening

On Saturday, June 23rd, join us for our half day Movement Lawyering Convening. The Convening will feature workshops that explore how organizers and lawyers can collaborate to end the criminalization and incarceration of Black bodies. The first workshop “Beyond Bail: Decriminalizing Blackness” will look at ongoing fights to end money bail as the beginning of our struggle to end mass criminalization and change social and cultural narratives. In the second workshop, “A World Without Cages: Prison Abolition Visioning Exercise with Intelligent Mischief,” participants will have an opportunity to flex their creative muscles and utilize innovative tools that help us transform our assumptions about what is possible. By engaging the Black radical imagination, we will begin to deconstruct the law and legal structures and become more aligned with organizers who challenge systemic and institutional racism every day.
